Dear Karen,

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed our art lesson.  When I took a couple of lessons from a lady in the area, I found she was not helpful in teaching me anything new.  I have always enjoyed art and wanted to improve my techniques.  My lesson with you was fresh and informative.  I found that your method of dividing up the canvas into sections and getting a better perspective on my painting was extremely helpful.  It made it much easier to scale down the painting into sections which were easier to manage so it was not overwhelming to me.  It is very hard to know where to start a painting and your fresh perspective made it much less intimidating for me.

I learned so much more from you in one lesson than I did in several with the other lady.  I was sorry not to be able to continue with you since we moved out of the area.  Otherwise, I would have enjoyed learning more from you.

Sincerely,

 Carol D.

Thank you Carol. It was a pleasure spending time with you as well. It was great to see your excitment as you were able to successfully create your desired image!

portrait drawing

This is a drawing of Angelina from her teenage years as a model.
It had been a while since I last drew and was a bit rusty. Overall it turned out great.

Pencil drawings never look as nice replicated on the computer as they do in person. The subtle shading is always rougher on the computer. The delicate and softer lines of your pencil tend to disappear. Overall the computer doesn't always pick up the many shades of grey from a pencil, so if it looks good on the computer it is usually much better in person.  size: 8x10

The Art of drawing

I was born with the ability to draw the human figure. Kindergarten was my first challenge, my art teacher didn't approve of my drawings for I didn't draw stick people as she had instructed. I didn't understand why my drawings of my family with bellies, arms and legs were incorrect. So, I was sent to the Principal's office until class was over.

As I moved through the school system I often would be recruited to draw the thing no one else in class could draw. One time it was a face from a magazine that everyone thought was impossible. So, I took on the challenge.

The ability to draw portraits turned into commissioned work that lead me to drawing sports images. as well.

The following is a 24x36 pencil drawing: Note: the hockey player is a photo of the original commissioned drawing.

I enjoyed drawing the scars and wear and tear on the leather pads. It was a challenge to make the net  light enough to see but not dominate the image, Unfortunately the net is not visible at this size.  This image was matted and framed before delivery.

The following was created with colored pencils. A combination of faces, hands and lace to create the image. It was my first attempt at drawing on a large scale (24x36) with colored pencils.

Hello,

Today is a beautiful day, the sun is shinning and the birds are singing. I wanted to post a few more images of my art work, These are acrylic paintings. Most of my paintings have been sold but here are a few I kept for myself.

art -water colors

Hello,

Welcome to my world. As an artist I see things in a different perspective than non artists. As I travel through life I see things in a different way. My time here will be to express life through art and writing.

I love to inspire others to be creative, the best feeling ever is when a non artist is able to create something from nothing. To see that they have the ability to be creative is exhilarating to me!

I so enjoy instructing others to be creative. Adults are shy where as children will try anything. There isn't that fear of failure. Art is never a pass or fail. It is an interpretation from the artist to the viewer. Our life experiences can change the interpretation from one person to another. Let's embrace art and our differences!

The following is examples of my own water color art work:
